There’s a Red for Everyone—and These 11 Pieces Prove Just That

Curated by Tricia Ferrante

Strong. High-energy. Vibrant. Red turns heads, whether it's cherry, oxblood, or wine. We saw this power color starting to show up in our wardrobes last fall, and it's gaining even more momentum this season. However, the question it always seems to elicit is: Is red for me?

Simply put: Yes! There is a red (or several reds) for everyone.  Flame and orange hues work best for warmer skin tones, while blue-toned and berry reds complement cooler complexions. Still, my rule of thumb is to wear the tone that speaks to you. You can add a pop of color to any look with a red belt or shoe or make a bolder statement with pants (like this cherry pair below) or a coat. Modern red power suits aside, I lean toward wearing one red item at a time.

Tips From Your Style Editor

  • If your fashion comfort zone lies within the spectrum of black and gray, a red accent bag, shoe, or belt are easy ways to introduce red to into your wardrobe.

  • Reds and deeper wines can be dressed up in elegant ways for evening events or worn in a sporty and casual ways for daytime.

  • Red and wines look great with army green, camels, and browns.

  • Red with denim is a winning combination. Wear your favorite jeans with a white shirt and red shoes or sneakers. Or wear a red top or sweater with jeans for a classic look.

  • Highlight red and burgundy shoes by pairing them with cropped pants or midi dresses.
