Fall Forward: Style Inspiration for the New Season

Curated by Tricia Ferrante

Autumn brings a promising feel, which is so evident in what we wear. I always look forward to fall fashion—the textbook-size Vogue September issue, the cooler temperatures, the change in routines. It all feels like a fresh start coming off a long, hot summer.

This season is the ultimate time of year to experiment: add layers, choose richer color palettes, and mix new pieces. It's all up to you. Be sure to keep in mind what makes you feel good and what your needs are. As I recently read, "the clothes we need have changed as our lives have changed."

If you're seeking inspiration for your closet, below are some trends that are, in truth, anything but trendy and will carry you through the season with confidence. Think classic animal prints, maxi skirts with blazers, coats over dresses, and a return to mid- and low-rise trousers. And, of course, you will always be happy weaving in some menswear-inspired pieces, as so many September issues past have proven.

  • Find the balance between masculine and feminine by adding something sheer, a chunky cuff, or statement earrings, or by adding a pair of heels to menswear looks.
