11. The Future of Work is Community and Collaboration: April Uchitel

April 22, 2024 | interview by Nada Jones

This episode was originally released on June 23, 2021.

April Uchitel is the Co-Founder of THE BOARD, a vetted network of value-driven consultants bringing C-level “dream team” expertise to brands. April most recently held CEO positions at ONDA Beauty and at Violet Grey. Before that, April was the Chief Brand Officer and founding team member at Spring where she led brand strategy and curation. Prior to Spring, she spent 25 years in the fashion industry. April is a self-proclaimed “accidental activist” and is a founding member of IAMAVOTER.

In this episode, Nada sits down with April Uchitel to discuss how she Co-Founded The Board during, and as a result of the pandemic. April recognized the seismic shift that the pandemic created across many industries. Many talented individuals were leaving their jobs and businesses. She questioned what would happen if she could parlay these extremely talented freelancers into a project-based curated consultant team for young businesses that needed guidance from experienced leaders.

The Board is shifting the top-down model to a community model.

One of the reasons why The Board is now a sought-after agency is because of April’s depth of experience and foresight to counteract the growing ageism in the workplace by leaning into the expertise of industry leaders who are now at the top of their game. April herself has decades of experience as she has held multiple CEO positions, Chief Brand Officer, and 9 years as the EVP of Global Sales & Strategy at DVF. Partnering with young businesses, The Board is able to help them strategize, brand building, and avoid problems that they might not have the experience to foresee. April considers her “matchmaking” skills as her superpower.
